West Biloxi Boardwalk projects are moving along on schedule including the completed extension! Next up, the rest of phase two. Construction of a new public boat launch in Biloxi will begin!
A recent ribbon cutting celebrated the completion of the boardwalk extension that started a year ago. The extension added another mile and a half, easily connecting visitors to local shops, businesses and dining. The boardwalk expansion started at Veterans Avenue and ended at Camellia Street.
Phase two will continue with a new public boat launch in Biloxi that will be built at the south end of Camellia Street.
The new public boat launch in Biloxi is a joint effort among Harrison County Board of Supervisors, the city and the state. The estimated cost is about $3 million in Tidelands funds.
The new boat launch will include Treasure Bay Casino’s existing jetty. A new jetty will be added to the east at the end of the boardwalk. According to a WLOX report, this is the first boat launch built on the peninsula in 24 years!
Residents and visitors alike look forward to the day the boat launch is open to the public. It will ease the overcrowding issues at the current limited Gulf launches. There are several backwater launches that connect to the Gulf, but not many leading straight to it.
The summer holiday season is fast approaching, and Biloxi loves keeping pace! While the new public boat launch in Biloxi won’t be in use this year, it’s nice to know it’s coming!
